The Come Children Sing Institute has been a center for research and development in music learning for over 25 years. Its online campus houses an extensive Online Teacher Education Center, with online courses for music educators and early childhood educators; Come Children, Sing! Online Music Classes for very young children, with 4 years of instruction for children and parents; and the Come Children Sing Institute SONG LIBRARY, with more than 500 new songs for children of all ages. The Come Children Sing Institute, directed by founder, Mary Ellen Pinzino, leads the way online for music education for the 21st Century.
The Come Children Sing Institute operated for many years in the traditional classroom setting, offering a comprehensive early childhood music program for children from birth to kindergarten, a full children's choral program serving children from kindergarten through age thirteen, and an extensive teacher-education program, including graduate courses for music teachers. The Institute provided a unique laboratory for studying the process of music learning and the effects of applied research to long-term development, as many children attended classes at the Institute for many years from infancy through grade school.
Ms Pinzino composed numerous songs to meet the growing musical needs of children at the Institute, creating art songs for the very young, new repertoire for the developing children's chorus, and songs for all ages to grow on. The many new songs for preschool, elementary school and children's chorus are presented in the Come Children Sing Institute SONG LIBRARY.
The Come Children Sing Institute served thousands of children and parents from more than fifty Chicago suburbs, Chicago, and Northwest Indiana for eleven years. Outreach programs, with a staff of four teachers, included introductory classes at many suburban park districts, classes for at-risk preschoolers, children with special needs, and daycare centers, and classes for public and parochial elementary school children. The Institute served regularly as a center for observation for music education majors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Northern Illinois University. The children’s chorus of the Institute was heard on National Public Radio, at the Illinois Music Educators Association state conference, in the Come Children Sing Institute Madrigal Feasts, in performance with the Grande Prairie Singers, in performance with the Vandercook College of Music Concert Choir, and in various festivals, including a national children's chorus festival in New York.
Since 1995, the Come Children Sing Institute has been developing media to reach many more children with its unique approach to music learning. The Come Children Sing Institute SONG LIBRARY has been highly touted by leaders in music education for the artistry of the songs and for its innovative technology providing for teachers to see the notation, hear the songs, and print the notation. Originally a full resource CD-ROM, the SONG LIBRARY is now part of the online campus.
Come Children, Sing! Online Music Classes for infants, babies, toddlers and preschoolers have brought quality music education into the home, engaging parents and children together in the exciting process of the young child’s music learning. The Come Children Sing Institute has also developed a pilot for a television program for children two to five years old.
All media programs are founded on the music curriculum developed at the Come Children Sing Institute. The comprehensive curriculum, designed for children from birth through thirteen, includes a music reading program for children from kindergarten through sixth grade, with music books to read to preschool children, just as storybooks are read for language development.
The Come Children Sing Institute has been recognized internationally for its contribution to the field of music education. More recently, it has been singled out for its innovative Online Teacher Education Center and Come Children, Sing! Online Music Classes for young children. Outreach programs of the Institute offer free online music classes to children with special needs.
