Play Songs

Play Songs are “sing-along” songs that encourage playing with your child in music.  They invite delightful interaction with your child and with the music.  Sing them spontaneously in day-to-day activities with your little one.  Sing them to bring a smile, to distract your little one, or to charm your child into cooperating.  Use them to facilitate everyday routines.  Make these songs your own.  Sing them in a range comfortable for your own voice.  Make up verses to fit your days with your little one, bending the rhythms to fit the song.  Play Songs bring you and your child together in music, serving your relationship and everyday activities even more than they serve music learning.

Art Songs

CCS Art Songs are lovely little songs that capture and feed your child’s artistry.  Language has traditionally offered both a rich heritage of nursery rhymes and lovely little stories like “Goodnight Moon” and “The Tale of Peter Rabbit.”  Music, however, has traditionally offered only a rich heritage of folk songs for little children.  Your child is far more artistic, and ready to experience more sophisticated songs.  Your child absorbs the lovely little storybooks you read to him, complete with the sound of the words and expression of your voice, whether or not he understands the words or the story.  Similarly, your child absorbs CCS Art Songs, sensitive to each one’s unique interactions of poetry, meter and tonality, whether or not he understands the words.  Art Songs complement the traditional children’s folk songs and CCS Play Songs, offering experience with the art that is appropriate for your little artist.

Gem Songs

Gem Songs are unique, “little gems” that feed your child’s developing musicianship.  They include texts of rhymes from all over the world and poems of famous poets.  Texts are set in various meters and tonalities.  These challenging “little gems” include playparties in unusual meters, Art Songs, lyric melodies, dynamic rhythms, and a broad range of texts.  Gem Songs require greater music development, yet are appropriate for tender ages.  Traditionally, young children have had only folk songs, and songs whose texts address feelings or social issues.  Gem Songs provide song literature for your child to grow on as a musician.

CCS Songs are from the Come Children Sing Institute SONG LIBRARY, a resource of more than 500 new songs for children of all ages, and are composed by

Mary Ellen Pinzino.
