Have you ever found yourself making up songs as you play with your little one? Songs that you can’t remember enough to sing again? Songs that you wouldn’t want anybody else to hear? The wonder of your child is enough to turn any parent into a composer! Song is magic for your child, whether for the sake of music learning or for the sake of getting that little one dressed without fussing! Your spontaneous songs can charm, distract, amuse, calm, and engage your little one, whatever your musical skill or lack thereof. It is your singing to your child, being moved into song by the joy of your little one that makes your songs beautiful. Don’t worry how ridiculous your song or chant might sound. “Mow, mowy mow, mowy mowy the lawn. Mow, mowy mowy mowy mowy the lawn.” With or without melody, the repetition of your “rhyme” will charm your child. Who cares if you borrow a melody from somewhere? Who cares if you never sing your song again? Your spontaneous songs can reprimand a sidewalk for scraping your little one’s knee, discipline the food that keeps dropping from the highchair to the floor, or simply celebrate the joy of parenting. You may find that some of your songs become favorites that you use in daily routines. Those can make a nice addition to your child’s “digital baby book.” The Tech Guy tells you how to record on your computer with his posting, "How can I make a digital recording of my child's Music Babble?"
