"Playing Music" Outside the Lines

A child obsessed with trucks may respond more to any musical activity that includes trucks. Adapt any “Playing Music” suggestion to include your child’s favorite things. With a little creativity, Dialogue, Resting Tone, and any other Rhythm or Tonal Activity can include trucks, a favorite blanket, or anything that is special to your child.

Your child will favor different kinds of activities at different times, depending on your little one’s age, stage, mood, personality, sense of humor, or favorite things. Review the full resource of “Playing Music.” Borrow Dialogue ideas from previous or more advanced classes, apply suggestions listed for Rhythm Dialogue to Tonal Dialogue and vice versa, use ideas presented with Rhythm Syllables for Tonal Syllables. Your growth in understanding the process of music learning and your extensive experience “Playing Music” with your child in earlier CCS Classes will guide you to stay true to the musical objective of the activity. Don’t worry if you are really tired of including trucks in every activity. Next week, your little one just might abandon trucks for airplanes.
