Uncommon Sense

"What if my child shows interest in the music activities on some days, but on other days is not interested?"

The fact that your child is not “paying attention” to the music does not mean that your child does not like the music activities or that your child is losing interest.  Some days your child will want the music activities to be in the “foreground,” other days, in the background.  We, too, sometimes play our own favorite music and sing or dance with the recording, while other times prefer to have the music in the background.

Little children that appear to be “tuned out,” distracted, or involved with something else are still absorbing the music.  Research has shown the power of appropriate music for music learning while a child is playing with toys, or even asleep.  If you want to entice your child when “tuned out,” you might “play” with the music activities with one of your child’s favorite dolls or stuffed animals.  If that doesn’t bring your little one into the activities, then play the sound files and let your child “multitask” while you catch up on email!
